- This role oversees the Dealer Tire Family of Companies’ payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing of scheduled (weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly) and on demand (off-cycle) payroll activities for approximately 6,500 employees (US and Canada). Pivotal to this will be implementing best practices, maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards, and driving continuous improvements in payroll systems and processes, tax, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and lead a geographically dispersed Payroll team across the Enterprise.
- Lead and optimize all end-to-end payroll processes, inclusive of taxation and reporting obligations, while ensuring accurate pay calculations and compliance with Enterprise policies and relevant legislation.
- Lead the review of enterprise payroll processes and integrations, identifying trends, discrepancies, and anomalies; provide relevant insights and recommendations.
- Partner with the People, IT, and Finance teams, along with key stakeholders, to ensure seamless integration of payroll data with HRIS and financial systems and address system issues promptly, proposing enhancements as appropriate.
- Deliver expertise and insights to facilitate payroll services and payroll improvement projects.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to minimize risks associated with payroll activities.
- Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure adherence to legislation, instruments, and internal policies.
- Conduct impact assessments of proposed changes; determine the benefits to be realized, and measure, monitor, and update where deliverables change.
- Provide continuous feedback, including positive confirmations, on matters relating to compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Ensure a cooperative and open knowledge sharing relationship is developed and maintained across the Enterprise.
- Review and analyzes payroll tax procedures; apply continuous improvement methods to streamline processes and mitigate risk.
- Lead the overall maintenance and development of procedures and policies related to payroll tax, with understanding of their correlation and impact to other departments.
- Assure all Federal, State and Local payroll tax liabilities and associated regulatory tax filings are completed 100% accurate and on time.
- Provide oversight and collaborative relationship management with third party payroll tax system provider to ensure long-term stability of solution as it relates to our business.
- Support and lead the team on workflow and projects as required.
- Manage enterprise workload and recruit resources as required.
- Manage year-end process including tax and W2 file reconciliation between HRIS, TPA, and corporate general ledger.
- Ensure all tax filings including annual W2 distribution are completed accurately and within mandated timelines.
- Managing and test Workday payroll configuration, partnering with external payroll consultant as required.
- Keep employees and HRBP’s informed of appropriate legislation or tax regulations that affect their pay.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws and proactively inform business of changes that impact Enterprise payroll, unemployment, or leaves of absences.
- Leadership, Mentoring and Coaching
- Provide leadership and coaching to the payroll departments and staff across the Dealer Tire Family of Companies.
- Develop, mentor, and empower team members to provide appropriate solutions, customer service and advice.
- Communicate operational priorities, objectives, and goals.
- Facilitate problem solving and collaboration across the Dealer Tire Family of Companies.
- Complete performance evaluations for each team member and recommend appropriate action such as promotions, counseling, and termination.
- Train, assist, and support managers and employees in the use of the Workday system with regards to Payroll transactions.
- In collaboration with leadership, determine staffing needs, interview potential candidates, and hire employees.

- Assist department in carrying out various HR programs and procedures, as necessary.
- Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, master’s degree desired.
- 10+ years of payroll and tax filing experience required.
- Extensive payroll tax and tax compliance experience required.
- Experience with K1 and expat payroll a plus.
- Meticulous detail orientation and organization.

- Significant proven experience in leading and managing a payroll function in a large geographically dispersed organization.
- Experience with various payroll/HRIS software and systems, such as Workday, ADP, OSV, used for upstream and downstream processes.
- Proven stakeholder and relationship management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders and senior leaders.
- History of managing projects, improving payroll processes, enhancing efficiency, and creating robust documentation through data-driven insights.
