Job title: Graduate Writing Consultant Company: Southern Utah University Job description : Job Description: The Graduate Writing Center welcomes SUU graduate students at every level of writing skill and confidence and at every stage of the writing process because every writer needs a reader. We are looking for applicants who share our passion for supporting students in expressing themselves effectively and authentically to join us as a graduate writing consultant. Graduate writing consultants meet with graduate students in one-on-one or small-group sessions to provide constructive writing feedback and resources to enhance graduate students' skills, knowledge, and overall confidence with writing, research, and academic or professional genres. The Graduate Writing Center is currently hybrid, and graduate writing consultants may work off-campus/remotely with supervisor approval. To be eligible for this position, applicants must be living in the state of Utah at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment. Duties and Responsibilities: * Meet with graduate students from various disciplines in online (synchronous and asynchronous) tutoring sessions. Provide constructive feedback and resources for graduate-level academic writing (as well as for professional writing projects) in a variety of genres. Complete and maintain session records accurately, professionally, and promptly. Assist graduate students with scheduling appointments and respond to inquiries about appointments, services, and other general information. Attend and participate in required trainings and meetings. Communicate and consult regularly with the Graduate Writing Center Coordinator and fellow consultants as part of ongoing training. Assist the Graduate Writing Center Coordinator with special projects such as marketing and outreach, additional writing resources or services, and/or program development as needed. Education and Experience Requirements: Required Qualifications: Required Education and Experience: * Earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited university AND has successfully worked as a writing tutor or writing fellow for at least 2 years, OR Earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited university AND is working on a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited university (current graduate students preferred), OR Earned a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited university. Experienced in providing constructive feedback on academic writing (preferably research papers). Required Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge: * Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening and collaborating. Strong writing, communication, and reading skills. Strong organizational skills, dependability, and self-motivation. Willingness to learn from and apply feedback as part of ongoing professional development. Familiarity with graduate-level academic writing/research expectations. Proficiency in APA style/format (7th edition). Ability to tutor successfully in both synchronous and asynchronous online formats. Ability to work online successfully and access equipment needed for audio/visual sessions. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings (and sometimes weekends, if needed). Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Education and Experience: * Experienced in teaching, coaching, and/or mentoring adult learners in an academic context. Experienced in working successfully as a writing tutor, writing fellow, teaching assistant, and/or college instructor (preferably of composition or similarly writing-intensive courses). Trained in writing center, tutoring, and/or learning theories, pedagogies, and best practices. Preferred Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge: * Bilingual and/or multilingual. Proficiency with Zoom, Google Chat, and Gmail.
