CIVIL RIGHTS ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY / 2-5 Yrs LITIGATION EXPERIENCE- HYBRID/SOME REMOTE A prominent civil rights firm is expanding its reach to an under-served population in Los Angeles/ Santa Monica Location - The position will initially require a commute to our Orange County office for in-person training, located near the John Wayne Airport during the first 2-4 weeks. Depending on the candidate's initial experience, the training may be shorter or longer. This is a hybrid position requiring some weekly attendance at our OC office new next to John Wayne Airport. Thereafter, the candidate will be on their own at our Los Angeles Location with the possibility of a full remote position. Our firm focuses on 14th Amendment jail medical deliberate indifference and 4th Amendment police misconduct and actively seeking to hire a motivated problem-solver to join our team. We handle cases ranging from excessive force including officer-involved shootings to jail assaults and in-custody wrongful death and jail medical deliberate indifference cases. We strive to seek justice for our clients and are not afraid to go toe-to-toe against big government, if necessary. We also litigate cases involving the 8th and 14th Amendments' deliberate indifference to a serious medical condition that has a large medical neglect component. The ideal candidate will have experience in litigation, excellent speaking, writing, analytical, and research skills, and an ability to work with minimal supervision. Responsibilities and requirements: Draft, research, and prepare motions, including exparte motions and motions and oppositions to summary judgment motions; prepare and work on discovery. Opportunity to work and argue in appellate court Opportunity to take and defend depositions depending on experience Manage case-specific federal deadlines Experience with electronic filing in state and federal court preferred. Compensation includes benefits and salary. The candidate will be further responsible for discovery files including reviewing police and investigative reports as well as jail medical records, drafting both federal and state complaints, responding to discovery requests, formulating discovery strategies along with lead firm partner, researching case law, case-related calendaring, responsible for own case load, preparing legal memorandum, law and motion, and trial preparation. The candidate must be able to write and conduct law and motion research on various constitutional issues and be highly proficient at performing these tasks. Our firm has a proven track record for creating landmark and precedential 9th Circuit civil rights case law. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and writing skills. The candidate must also have great interpersonal and communication skills when contacting clients to follow up and communicate updates or case status. Prior attorney and/or law clerk experience is preferred. Min of 2-5 years of law and motion experience- Federal litigation experience is a plus. New associates are encouraged to apply.
