Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Customer Service Guide (Human Services Specialist 1) to join our team at the Oregon Department of Human Services. As a key member of our Self-Sufficiency Program (SSP) team, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of Oregonians in need of support and resources. You will work collaboratively with a diverse team to provide specialized assistance to individuals and families seeking services, and contribute to a welcoming environment that promotes whole well-being.Responsibilities:
- Provide customer service and support to individuals and families seeking services, including food benefits, cash assistance, childcare assistance, and more.
- Serve as the first point of contact for customers, either in-person, by phone, or through our online applicant portal.
- Offer information and referrals to community resources, and assist with case status and other inquiries.
- Work collaboratively with program staff to provide a safety net and promote family stability.
- Contribute to a trauma-informed and culturally responsive work environment that values diversity and inclusivity.
Requirements:
- Two years of experience in customer service or a related field, with a high volume of paperwork and people contact.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft programs, web browsers, and multiline telephone systems.
- Ability to adapt communication style to explain complex information to diverse audiences.
- Experience with multiple systems and databases, with the ability to elicit information from applicants and recipients.
