We're seeking a highly skilled and passionate Work Prep Lead to drive the success of our Girls Who Code Work Prep program, a three-week initiative designed to empower college-aged women and non-binary individuals pursuing careers in tech. As a Work Prep Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of tech professionals, fostering their career skills and confidence through hands-on experience with our unique technology, processes, and culture.
About the Girls Who Code Work Prep Program
The Girls Who Code Work Prep program is an innovative, virtual experience that brings participants together with industry experts, corporate partners, and peers to explore the tech industry. Through synchronous sessions, asynchronous tasks, and collaborative activities, participants gain a deeper understanding of the tech landscape and develop essential skills to succeed. As a Work Prep Lead, you'll be responsible for guiding a cohort of up to 120 participants through this transformative journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a cohort of up to 120 participants through the Work Prep program, ensuring a welcoming, engaging, and brave space for young adults to grow and learn.
- Manage the preparation of participant-facing materials, including updating and copy editing templates, to ensure accuracy and alignment with the curriculum.
- Facilitate all virtual synchronous sessions (twice a week for three weeks), providing logistical support to participants and corporate partners.
- Lead weekly meetings and pre-session check-ins with corporate partners to prepare volunteers, speakers, and partner materials.
- Escalate participant and partner concerns or issues as needed, demonstrating proactive and candid communication.
- Update documentation for program implementation with partner-specific information, ensuring seamless execution.
Essential Qualifications
To excel as a Work Prep Lead, you'll need:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working with groups of college-aged students or young adults (classes, workshops, events, etc.).
- Experience facilitating large group activities and discussions virtually on Zoom, with excellent oral communication and presentation skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to quickly learn and navigate new platforms.
- A collaborative mindset, with experience working in a team environment and with corporate partners.
- A reliable, strong internet connection and access to a computer (one will not be provided).
- A service-minded approach, with a passion for our mission to close the gender gap in technology fields through diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:
- Experience working with students in college or a job readiness program.
- Knowledge or experience in the tech industry, computer science, or adjacent fields.
- Coding experience, although not necessary, is a plus.

Key Dates and Estimated Hours

- Round 1: May 28th-June 16th (Synchronous sessions on Mondays/Wednesdays from 3:30-6 pm ET)
- Round 2: July 8th - July 24th (Synchronous sessions on Tuesday/Thursdays from 3:30-6 pm ET)
- 4/7-4/25: Onboarding Training Sessions and Tasks (~ 10 hours/week, with 2 hrs/week synchronous time)
- 4/28-5/28: Pre-Program Prep Time (~ 15 hours/week, with 2 hours/week synchronous time)
- 5/28-7/24: In Program Work Time (~ 20 hours/week, with 6 hours/week synchronous time)
- 7/28-8/1: Post-Program Wrap Up (~10 hours, with 2 hours synchronous time)
