About the position

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is seeking an Equipment Operator for the Callahan County Maintenance Office. This position is integral to the maintenance and operation of heavy equipment used in transportation projects. The Equipment Operator will be responsible for performing complex transportation maintenance work, which includes operating various types of heavy machinery such as tractor-trailer haul trucks, motor graders, large excavators, heavy bulldozers, cranes, herbicide trucks, heavy asphalt paving machines, self-propelled asphalt distributors, profiling/milling machines, and dump trucks. The role requires a high level of independence, as employees will be expected to manage their assignments while referring unusual issues to their supervisor. In addition to operating heavy equipment, the Equipment Operator will assist with traffic control by placing and gathering cones, warning signs, and barricades, as well as flagging traffic. The position also involves monitoring and completing various reports, including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and Preventative Maintenance Inspection (PMI) checklists. Preventive maintenance inspections and minor repairs on equipment are also part of the job responsibilities. The Equipment Operator may serve as a project lead, ensuring that work performed meets project specifications and may also be responsible for training other employees on equipment operation and safety procedures. Responsibilities
? Operate heavy equipment such as tractor-trailer haul trucks, motor graders, large excavators, heavy bulldozers, cranes, herbicide trucks, heavy asphalt paving machines, self-propelled asphalt distributors, profiling/milling machines, and dump trucks.

? Assist with traffic control by placing and gathering cones, warning signs, and barricades; flag traffic as needed.

? Monitor and complete various reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and Preventative Maintenance Inspection (PMI) checklists.

? Perform preventive maintenance inspections and minor repairs on equipment.

? Serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.

? Train other employees on equipment operation and safety procedures.

Requirements
? 1 year experience in maintenance and/or construction equipment operation.

? Commercial Class "A" Driver License (CDL) with an N Endorsement, with no restrictions at time of application.
