Supplier Industrialization Engineer, Battery Metals
Posted 2025-04-21Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical raw materials, component production, and qualification activities at suppliers. This role will be responsible for being the interface between the Supplier Industrialization and Lithium Refinery organizations concerning supplier quality and capacity issues, changes, and improvements, and will be crucial to ensuring successful commercialization of our novel lithium refining process.
Tesla's Lithium Refinery is located in the greater Corpus Christi area of Texas. This investment is critical to our mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy and represents our efforts to diversify and regionalize our battery supply chain. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting. Responsibilities
? Responsible for tracking raw material performance at the Lithium Refinery through daily onsite work to support data collection, identifying failure trends and confirming issue origination (on whether its raw material), and conducting any required lab testing needed to understand process risk
? Set up and run Material Review Board meetings in response to non-conformances due to raw material and drive corrective actions at the refinery to mitigate raw material performance issues
? Perform data analysis and manage & track actions to ensure material performance targets are met to close out Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs)
? Communicate issues identified at raw material suppliers in advance to the lithium refinery, support planning of contingent actions needed to ensure minimal disruption to refinery operations
? Support final product qualification/requalification activities by performing data collection, analysis, and managing other actions as needed
? Provide boots on-ground support as needed to help ramp-up of the lithium refinery
? Coordinate New Product Introductions (NPI), line trials, and samples for material changes and supplier change requests with feedback to suppliers
? Participate in Change Management for changes involving material spec and logistics by reviewing the changes and owning quality aspects of trials (participate in ongoing change control meetings as supply chain representative for the plant)
? Contribute to site Quality Management System (QMS) by technical document creation, and performing sample management specific to managing both raw materials and final product
Requirements
? Degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience
? 2+ years of work experience preferably as a Process/Quality Engineer in a mineral processing/chemical operation.
? Experience commissioning new equipment and new processes in a production environment
? Working knowledge of commonly used characterization techniques such as ICP, IC, TGA/DSC etc.
? Well versed in statistical data analysis and process capability analysis
? Ability to effectively communicate cross-functionally throughout the horizontal and vertical organization and escalate as needed
? Open-minded self-starter with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, technical environment, and to work independently on multiple tasks and projects, adapt, improvise and problem solve
? Ability to travel - 15%
